    Frequently Asked Questions

How is the net profit or loss calculated?

Total cost is your shares times the buy price plus the buy commission. Total proceeds are your shares times the sell price minus the sell commission. Net P/L is proceeds minus cost, and ROI is that P/L expressed as a percentage of the total cost.

What is the break-even sell price?

It is the price per share at which your net profit would be exactly zero, given the buy commission already paid and the sell commission mode you selected. With a percentage sell fee the break-even price is slightly higher than with a flat fee of the same nominal size, because the fee grows with the price.

Should I enter the commission as a flat amount or a percentage?

Match your broker. Many US brokers charge a flat fee per trade (enter it as Flat), while percentage-based commissions are common in other markets (enter the rate as %). You can mix the two — for example a flat buy fee and a percentage sell fee.

Does the calculator fetch live stock quotes?

No. All prices are entered manually, so the tool works fully offline and never sends your trades anywhere. Check your broker or a market site for the current quote, then type it in.

Does it support short selling or dividends?

No. It models one long buy–sell round trip only. Short positions involve borrow fees and interest, and dividends involve tax treatment that varies by jurisdiction — both are intentionally out of scope.

Which currency does the calculator use?

It is currency-agnostic: the math is identical for dollars, euros, yen, or anything else. Type an optional symbol (like $ or €) if you want it displayed next to the amounts.
