Frequently Asked Questions
How is GPA calculated?
GPA is a credit-weighted average. Each letter grade is converted to grade points (A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, down to F = 0.0), multiplied by the course credits, summed across all courses, and divided by the total credits. Rows with zero or missing credits are ignored.
What grade scale does this calculator use?
It uses the standard US 4.0 scale: A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, B+ = 3.3, B = 3.0, B- = 2.7, C+ = 2.3, C = 2.0, C- = 1.7, D = 1.0, and F = 0.0. Note that some schools use slightly different scales (for example with A+ or D+).
Can I calculate a cumulative GPA across multiple semesters?
Yes. Add every course from all semesters together with its credits and grade. The calculator weights all of them and shows your overall cumulative GPA and total credits.
