Certificate Generator
Create beautiful certificates for courses, achievements, and awards
Preview
A certificate generator turns a name and an achievement into a finished award without opening a design tool. Fill in four fields, pick one of three templates, choose an accent color, and download a PNG. Everything is drawn on an HTML canvas in your browser, so the recipient’s details are never sent anywhere. Teachers, trainers, event organizers, and team leads can produce a recognizable certificate in about a minute.
How to Use
- Fill the four required fields — recipient name, course or achievement title, date, and issuer name. Defaults are pre-filled so you can see the layout before typing.
- Pick a template — Classic, Modern, or Minimal. The preview redraws instantly.
- Choose an accent color with the color input; the default is a deep blue (
#1e40af). - Download PNG — the button exports the 800×566 canvas as
certificate.png.
Because the canvas redraws on every keystroke, you can watch a long name push toward the edges before you commit to the download.
Worked Example
Suppose a coding bootcamp wants to award a completion certificate. They set:
- Recipient:
Priya Raman - Course title:
Full-Stack Web Development - Date:
2026-03-20 - Issuer:
Northside Coding Academy - Template: Modern
- Accent color:
#0f766e(teal)
The canvas shows CERTIFICATE OF ACHIEVEMENT in white on a teal top band, “PRESENTED TO” above the name, the course title beneath it, and a tinted footer band carrying March 20, 2026 on the left and the academy name on the right, each with a small caption. Downloading yields a single 800×566 PNG that can be emailed, dropped into a slide, or printed on card stock.
What Each Template Looks Like
| Template | Visual character | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| Classic | Cream background, double ornamental border, corner dots, serif type | Graduations, formal compliance training, anything traditional |
| Modern | White background, solid color banner across the top, sans-serif type, tinted footer | Tech, startups, hackathons, creative workshops |
| Minimal | Off-white background, a single colored vertical rule at the left, light type, no border | Clean corporate brands and understated recognition |
The templates differ in more than color: Classic centers the signature line and a decorative asterisk motif, Modern splits date and issuer into two footer columns, and Minimal uses a single left-aligned accent bar instead of a frame.
Print Sizes and Quality
The export is raster, not vector, so text sharpness depends on the final print size. The 800×566 canvas is a 1.41:1 landscape ratio, close to the ISO A-series and US Letter landscape proportions. At 150 DPI it occupies about 5.3 × 3.8 inches, which suits a half-letter award. Printing at full US Letter landscape (11 × 8.5 inches) stretches it to about 73 DPI and the type will look soft. For a large-format print, upscale the PNG with a resampling tool or regenerate at a higher canvas size by editing the component.
What You Cannot Change
The four text fields and the accent color are the entire customization surface. The headings, the “has successfully completed the course” line, the signature rule, and its caption are hard-coded per template. There is no font picker, no logo upload, no second signatory, no PDF export, and no batch mode. Very long names or course titles are not wrapped or truncated — fillText centers a single line, so anything beyond roughly 30–35 characters at the given font size will run past the canvas edge. Keep entries short, or choose Minimal, which uses slightly smaller type.
Common Mistakes
- Leaving the issuer blank when the certificate is for yourself; the validator requires it, because an unsigned-looking award is worth less to the recipient.
- Typing the date as text instead of using the date field. The field is what triggers the
Month D, YYYYformatting. - Choosing Modern and then a very pale accent, which makes the white banner text unreadable. Pick a mid-to-dark tone for any template that puts white text on the accent.
- Printing on thin paper. Certificate stock makes an outsize difference to how the award is received, and the PNG itself cannot compensate for flimsy paper.
Using the Download in Different Workflows
A single 800×566 PNG fits several delivery paths. For email, compress the file first — a flat certificate compresses extremely well — and keep it under about 200 KB so it renders inline in most clients. For a slide deck, place it on a light background at roughly half the slide width and leave generous margins; the built-in border reads as a frame, so a second border around the image looks busy. For a print run, convert to CMYK if the printer requests it, since the PNG is sRGB, and test one copy before ordering a batch. For a digital badge or social post, cropping the 800×566 frame square trims the side borders; regenerate with Minimal if you plan to crop, because it has no border to lose. If the recipient must see exactly what you exported, send the PNG rather than a screenshot of the preview, which captures the page background.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the exact pixel dimensions of the downloaded certificate?
The canvas is 800 by 566 pixels, and the download button exports that canvas directly as a PNG. At 150 DPI that prints at roughly 5.3 by 3.8 inches, and at 96 DPI it displays at about 8.3 by 5.9 inches on screen.
Can I change the heading text, such as 'Certificate of Completion'?
No. Each template draws its own fixed heading and supporting lines. You control four fields — recipient name, achievement or course title, date, and issuer — plus the primary color. Wording changes would require editing the component's drawing code.
How does the date I pick get formatted on the certificate?
The date input returns an ISO value like 2026-07-13, and the renderer converts it to a long English form: July 13, 2026. The month name is always spelled out, which reads better in print than a numeric slash date.
What happens if I clear one of the fields?
The renderer validates all four fields before drawing. If any is blank it stops the redraw, keeps the error banner visible, and leaves the last valid certificate on the canvas rather than printing a half-empty design. Restore the field and the preview resumes immediately.
Can I add my organization's logo or a scanned signature?
Not currently. The signature area is a ruled line labelled Authorized Signature, and there is no image upload. The workaround is to export the PNG and place the logo or signature on top in an image editor.
What does the color picker change on each template?
It sets the single accent color used for the name, borders, and headings. On Classic it colors the double border, corner dots, name, and issuer; on Modern it fills the top banner and tints the footer band; on Minimal it colors the left rule, underline, and name.
